(
...more about us here at Aztec Moon )
SEPTEMBER
21st, 2008
This
is probably our last update until the end of October, when we will
be putting our last collection of stones online for the holiday season. There
are many new agates specimens
for you to choose and enjoy, plus a dozen
new obsidian cabs we have
been able to search out from our miners - there has been alot of rain
in Mexico lately, some has collapsed and
damaged many of the mines we work with. We have some very rare stones
just added today, a couple of the much sought after Sonora
Sunrise , a red & green chrysocolla mix, some
very elegant Denritic opalite and the very beautiful Stichtite in all
of
its purple beauty (this stone
is not dyed). That's all until next month......
SEPTEMBER

A
huge batch of 'Old Stock' Arizona turquoise has just been added to
Aztec Moon's website. There are a few rare Bisbee
cabs as
well as other mines, possibly Sleeping Beauty stones and others which
we cannot be sure of the identity, so we are just calling them 'Arizona'
turquoise. Most of these stones have a solid backing and came from
an out of business Arizona Rock Shop from the mid-1970's. We even put
some in your Specials section,
they are still excellent stones, possibly even rare - but, their condition
is not perfect, so they are discounted
accordingly. By the end of September we will be adding another huge
lot of beautifully polished cabochons of some exciting new specimens
as well as your favorites... obsidians, chrysocolla, botswana and coyomote
agates, and some extremely rare purple sugilite.
AUGUST

New
lots of stones are arriving from all over the world these next couple
of months - just in time for the winter holidays! Today you
will find a variety of Ocean Jasper cabs as
well as some excellent specimens of a couple different varieties of Leopard
Jasper. A few
Crazy Lace, Red Flame and Dendritic Opalite
agates, some very gemmy Indian Bloodstone,
along with
some
Chinese Writing Stone, Indian
Paint Stone and a couple calming Gary Green
Jasper - also known as
"Larsonite". Our pulidor has found us a couple more Spiderweb
Obsidian pieces that are superb! A nice variety of Dinosaur
Bone cabochons are
also new to our collection, some very rare and gemmy agatized cabs
from our amigos in Utah. In early September we expect to have online
another lot of beautiful and unique stones for gifts and designer jewelry.
Enjoy!
JULY

We
have just added some beautiful spiderweb
turquoise cabs from Hubia,
China, these stones are solid and real turquoise.(no resins, dyes,
etc.) Will be adding some brilliant tigereye and other stones in
the next coming weeks as we prepare for the holiday sales season!
JUNE
1st, 2008
Over
on our original gemstone site, we have added a page of Fire
Agate Specials. They are good quality commercial grade agates,
some with multicolored fire, others with alot of dead area (no
fire), some needing a little touching up and final polishing and
a few old stock we found in our inventory - some excellent deals!
All stones priced at 'origin of Mexico' wholesale or less.
MAY

We
are adding alot of new stock this weekend... currently
we have added some amazing Rare
Gems to
our Aztec Moon collection. Some unusual Tigereye from
Australia, very beautiful and gemmy little
Larimar cabochons, beautiful and rare blue Pietersite
cabs, some extremely rare Spiderweb
Turquoise gemstones from the 1960's - amazing
stones! Over the next couple days we will
be restocking other inventory with Obsidian, Flame
Agate, unique
yellow Fossilized
Petrified Wood, Dinosaur Bone and
a few mystery stones....... We were also able to get a few more
of those amazing Royal Imperial
Jasper from
our polisher - very rare and soon to be gone forever. Don't forget
to check out our Specials section too... some great deals on slightly
damaged cabs.
MARCH
24th, 2008
A
new collection of Obsidian has
arrived, as usual all are mirror polished with alot of new 'designer
cabochon' designs, as our polisher
is starting to get a bit more creative. A couple of rare Imperial
Jasper have also been added, these were found in the
back of our pulidor's shop - leftovers from the 1970's... we sure
hope he
finds some more of these! (very unique)
FEBRUARY
23rd, 2008
We
have just added a handful of Koroit
Boulder Opal to our Rare
Gems pages. Acquired in a trade with
a miner in Queensland, Australia, some nice fire, beautiful coloring
and boulder texture designs.
Hopefully we will be adding a complete page of boulder opal stones
in the near future - enjoy!
FEBRUARY
8th, 2008
Some
very unusual Mahogany Obsidian has
been added to our inventory. They are semi-tranparent like Apache
Tears and a couple have a
strange gray haze that is seen from only certain angles in the
sun - very difficult to photograph, mainly because they are mirror
polished that the reflections are very prominent too. You will
find a few
new
stones added here and there throughout Aztec Moon's pages...
we found a few that had been lost for a couple years, but re-discovered
after our recent move,
including
some
excellent Wonderstone cabs.
JANUARY
24th,
2008
Welcome
to a new year at Aztec Moon! We have just added over 50 new
beautiful highly polished stones to our inventory. Be sure to
check out
new cabs in almost every category. We have some new rarities, like Mujumi
stone from Zimbabwe; fiery hot Noreen
Jasper, absolutely the highest
quality we have come across on the web. A few more Obsidian have
also
come our way, along with a few of the rarer multicolored
and gold sheen specimens. Everybody seems to be out of the beautiful
multi-colored
rich obsidian stone down here in Mexico, so we don't expect
anymore of these rare beauties again for awhile. (maybe it is
all up at
the Tucson 2008 Gem & Mineral Show?)
DECEMBER
17th, 2007
Our
miners are spending time away from the mines enjoying life with their families
and friends - the traditional Navidad celebrations. Our stone cutters and
polishers are
also taking some well deserved time off for the holidays, but will be back
to work the beginning of 2008. So please check back in January for
new and exciting pieces from Aztec Moon. For our friends who appreciate fine
handcrafted Mexican gemstone jewelry, please have a look at some of the work
by Casa
de Mexico's artesanos in
the tienda.
DECEMBER

Today
we have added a few new specimens from a miner we have recently connected
with from Chihuahua in northern Mexico. We have a couple rare Bytownite
quartz,
some Crazy Lace Agate and a few very nice Rhyolite cabochons. Plus, we have
added some very gemmy and unusual patterned Dinosaur
Bone cabs. I case we
get too busy we would like to wish you a very special holiday season!

NOVEMBER
29th,
2007
By
request, we have added about a dozen more Obsidian
cabs to Aztec Moon. For
Larimar lovers we have a few
excellent stones from a new source in the Dominican Republic. Some amazing
new high grade
Jasper specimens have also arrived!
A couple very gemmy Ocean Jasper and
some perfect Picasso
Jasper stones have
also been added to the site, along with a new specimen for us - Zebra
Stone from Utah. We have never seen so much quartz mixed
in this type of stone, very rich and elegant - the photos don't do them
justice.
Check back in
the next couple days for a few more additions just in time for the holidays!
NOVEMBER
21st, 2007
For
the Amethyst lovers
out there, we just got in some beautiful gemmy dark grape amethyst quartz
crystal specimens - they just came out of the mine last week
and have had very little exposure to the sun (direct sunlight fades amethyst)
so they have a very rich color! They are not cabochons, but are excellent
specimens to add to your room decor and make fantastic collector display
pieces as well.
NOVEMBER

Just
a quick note... we were at the local county fair here and were attracted
to some rustic designed (surfer cabs) Koroit Boulder
Opal cabochons, some
with
holes
drilled
- ready
for
hanging.
They
are smooth
polished, but are rough in shape and they seem to be lacquer dipped, instead
of polished. Great for ethnic or surfer designer jewelry necklaces.
OCTOBER
21st,
2007
Finally
received some 'new' gemmy multicolored Velvet
Obsidian cabs,
plus a few of the very rare Silver Sheen Obsidian and
a couple of nice large Rainbow
Obsidian
cabochons. We also have added a few more of the highly requested Celestial
Stone,
our polisher is just about out of this material and will not be getting more
any time soon (could be years... if ever!). So be sure to check them out,
a very special stone - more beautiful than Larimar (we think)... a magical
stone of Mexico! We recently
received some
'old stock' Turquoise cabs from
the 1960's - a New Mexico rock shop that had gone out of business, they are
small beauties,
some have
a backing for strength and
added thickness - nice pieces.
SEPTEMBER
10th, 2007
WE
HAVE MOVED! Still
in Mexico and now back online for your gemstone pleasure! We are now
in the state of Colima, closer to the stone trade
of Guadalajara
and the opal mines of Magdalena. We have
added some new stones to our inventory... extremely rare Celestial
Stone from Mexico in our Rare Gems section,
a few Obsidian and Chrysocolla (including some unusual Parrot Wing),
plus some Russian beauties - very gemmy Chariote and Seraphinite cabochons.
And
don't forget our Specials section with
some great deals to be had! Imperfect cabochons (some imperfections
so slight you will hardly
notice), also some perfect stones that we usually use for trade -
we cannot offer them as perfect gemstones because of either cracks,
chips or
poor
color quality.
JULY
26th, 2007
We have just added a few
new Chinese Turquoise cabochons we
acquired in a trade from a Korean traveler we met in Mexico City. For our Chiapas
Amber collectors we have added some excellent
fossil amber polished specimens, including one with an insect inclusion
and some pieces with beautiful flora and leaf inclusions - this is the best
amber
we
have
seen in awhile, they will go fast!
JULY
14th, 2007
We
came across a local archeologist who traded us some fossilized seashells
that are over 150,000
years old and have some unique compressed quartz inclusions within
the polished halves, see them on our Fossils page.
A few new rainbow and velvet obsidians have arrived with some amazing
colors! and have been added to our Obsidian
section. We were also able to trade for a few very unique
and beautiful Chinese quartz cabs while in Mexico City recently and
for some beautifully
polished small quartz points - great for wire wrapping in our Quartz page.
